What Zoë Said this Morning

Here are some things Zoë said this morning from about 8:30 to about 9:30!
"Daddy, wake up!"
"Daddy, Zoë, down [downstairs]!"
"Tea! Li'l Mama, Li'l Dada, Turkey, Mama, Dada drink tea!"
[A tea party ensued. Li'l Mama is a bear, Li'l Dada is a dog named Spike, Turkey is a turkey who sports a bandaid on his head, and Mama and Dada are Alphonse and Sheepy Weepy respectively.]
"Dates!" [in response to"What do you want for breakfast, Zoë?"]
"Daddy eat pit, no."
"Zoë eat pit, no."
"Mommy eat pit, no."
"Fergus eat pit, no."
"Apricot!"
"Corn - cold."
"Peas - hot."
"More peas!"
"Zoë, Daddy go up [upstairs], take a look."
"One book."
"Two books."
"A lot of books!"
"Paper towels. Grapes."
[When she saw Daddy writing this list of things she said, she thought it might be shopping list -- and paper towels and grapes were the two things she was in charge of remembering the last time we went shopping.]
"Kayabaya"
[Kayabay is the name she gave to the littlest of a set of those Russian doll-within-a-doll things. Kayabaya has gone missing, so it made perfect sense to put her on the shopping list.]
"Cold!" [When Daddy opened the door to let Fergus out."]
"Collar."
"Coyote!" [Zoë has a beeswax candle shaped like a coyote.]
"Coyote talk to Zoë!"
"Paper towel here." [to get off a sticky bit of apricot.]
"Piglet."

Meow!
What did Zoë dress up as for Halloween?
There were some preliminary experiments a few days prior.

Yay!

There were some pictures that came with the facepaint crayons. Zoë said she wanted to be a pirate – but then she wanted to be the kabuki dancer, so she ended up a little bit of each.

Didn’t Zoë do a nice job with Daddy’s face?
Anyway, Zoë had also said she wanted to be a kitty cat or a dog. On Halloween morning, she said maybe a rabbit or elephant would be good, too.
By the way, did you know Zoë is talking up a storm? On the way out to get some Halloween things, Daddy and Zoë passed this big rock that the college kids paint with messages.
Out of the blue, Zoë said, “Daddy pick up rock, no; [too] big! Zoë pick up rock, no; [too] big. Mommy pick up rock, no; [too] big! Zoë pick up little rock!”
It’s so fun to talk with her!
Anyway, what was the final decision?
Kitty cat!

(Costume lovingly hand-made by Daddy; he was very proud of it.)
And then (on Sunday) we all off to a Halloween party with the other little peas!

This boy was a brownie.

Andrès was there! Andrès was an entomologist! (“I love bugs!”)

It was fun to see all the costumes. Otto was a construction worker!

Super-family!

Curious George and the Man in the Yellow Hat!

Turtle!

Cookie Monster!

All kinds of things!

Otto’s new little brother was too little for a costume.

Zoë had a fun time!

Andrès is Zoë’s friend!

On Halloween afternoon, the local corporate natural foods supermarket had a trick-or-treat-in-the-aisles thing, so Daddy and Julie (Andrès’s mom) took the little ones off for some fun!

Banana!

Macaroon!

Once Zoë figured out the system, it was pretty exciting!

Yay!

There were lots of good costumes!

Andrès is a cutie!

Yay!

It was even warm enough to play outside a little!

Yay!

Happy Halloween everybody!

Wait; there's more!
A day or two later, we had some visitors: Aunt Agnes, Finn, and…

…a little puppy named Mabel!

Aunt Agnes takes care of Finn a few days a week when his mommy is working. She takes care of Mabel all the time.
Time to get our shoes on to go outside!

(and eat a banana)
Everyone like Zoë's boots!

Banana peel for Nanna!

There is a lot to do outside.
Wheelbarrow!

Hammock!

Play in the fountain!

Could anything be cuter?

Yes!

It’s Mabel!

Let’s go for a walk!

Sometimes the little ones get tired.

In the evening, we went to see Aunt Agnes and Zoë’s cousin Crosby! It was a little dark for picture-taking.

That’s Crosby and little Zoë going on the big slide.
Swings!

Rosie and Agnes got to catch up.

In this picture, the haze in the foreground is really Crosby!

At the end of the day, Alex and Amy stopped by.

That’s little Cluck-Cluck on Alex’s knee!

“Time for bed?”

Yay, pajamas!

The next day, we all zipped down to Philadelphia to see Zoë’s cousins Asa & Leni– and Peter & Judy too!

Zoë has a Supergirl shirt!

Leni has a lot of toy animals—just like Zoë!

Peter & Jon took turns helping Asa assemble a neat-o marble contraption.

Also, everyone took pictures!

Everybody ready?

Smile!

One more!

That’s enough!
